UTV Motion Pictures, Nikhil Advani directed (as well as produced), KATTI BATTI, promises quality musical outing in the young, frothy rom-com, and no better than the masters themselves, the talented trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy to deliver chartbusting scores.
‘Lip To Lip‘ is yet another cute number that brings a smile to the face due to its naughty lyrics that put forth the importance of lip to lip kissing. Novel idea indeed! Nikhil D’Souza and Ritu Pathak render the number with ease with Ritu bringing in nasal twang to give the song the humorous retro touch.
Shankar regales and floors all with a heart touching rendition of the sad separation, heart break number, ‘Sao Aasoon ‘, and is well supported by Rasika Shekhar. The song is in the same corridor and almost in the same class as SEL’s one of the best ever sad numbers, ‘Tanhai (DIL CHAHTA HAI) and ‘Sau Dard Hai’ (JAAN-E-MANN), stands tall due to its superb lyrics (hats off to Kumar!), arrangements, melody and singing.
SEL are in top form once again in the soulful, extremely melodic, semi classical (Punjabi ‘Heer) and heart touching ‘Ove Jaaniya‘ which takes one back to the SD Burman days of yore. The song that pays rich tributes to true love gets the backing of some lovely lyrics and excellent rendition by Mohan Kannan.
New (to Bollywood) but extremely accomplished Indian classical and semi classical singer, Sayani Palit, gives a good account of her trained polished vocals in the reprise version of ‘Ove Jaaniya‘, which she sings almost unplugged with just caressing piano notes in the background.
The fun, party song that is capable of waking up ‘Kumbh Karan‘ (the mythological sleepy figure from Mahabharata) , ‘Jaago Mohan Pyaare‘ is a chartbuster. The mast youthful atmosphere is created through pulsating rhythm, lovely electronic arrangements with a host of singers like Siddharth Basrur, Rasika Shekhar, Digvijay Singh Pariyar and Raman Mahadevan having a party .
Summing up, SEL are back with a bang and they deliver chartbusting scores as per expectations. Our favourites ‘Sao Aasoon‘, ‘Ove Jaaniya‘ and ‘Jaago Mohan Pyaare‘. The hit album (and queen Kangana) should ensure a good to decent opening for KATTI BATTI when it releases all over on 18th September.
